The air is abuzz in The Bram & Bluma Appel Salon. It’s a beautifully sunny spring morning in Toronto, and a sea of hundreds of volunteers chicly dressed in black has congregated in the Reference Library’s second floor venue. The turnout is overwhelming.
Today is The Corsage Project’s signature Boutique Ball.
A brief welcome and orientation from The Corsage Project’s executive committee members and the volunteers break to their respective stations: purses & pashminas, shoes, change room/dress rack attendants, jewellery, make-up and personal shoppers.
I’m interested in gaining a sense for the project as a whole, so I choose to position myself as a personal shopper.
The doors to the salon are opened and the princesses-for-a-day file in, many of them with family members in tow. Each corsage girl is paired with their lady-in-waiting and so begins the madness.
